What are Veneers?
Veneers are thin, custom-made shells crafted of tooth-coloured materials designed to cover the front side of teeth to improve the overall appearance of teeth.
They can disguise a discoloured (rather than a damaged) tooth and make teeth look natural and healthy.
How are veneers fitted?
Because veneers are very thin and are held in place by a special, strong adhesive, tooth preparation is minimal and confined to the enamel structure.
To fit a veneer, the front of the tooth is drilled away a little and the veneer is then bonded to the tooth structure with tooth-coloured resin cement (similar to how a false fingernail is applied).
Because it necessary to remove a small amount of enamel from your teeth to accommodate the shell, the fitting of veneers is usually an irreversible process.
What are veneers made of?
Veneers are made of either thin plastic resin or porcelain.
What are the benefits of Veneers?
Veneers can be fitted to:-
- correct poorly formed or mildly mal-positioned teeth
- close gaps between teeth
- mask internal stains
- restore partially broken-down teeth
